Books Read in the Winter

This is based on the book 'Winter's Tale' by Mark Helprin. This poem also is about believing in love again.

It started with a burglar breaking into a mansion and then shifted into a love story.

Outcomes that seemed unlikely.

Ghosts took into the present that lived in the past.

A sick girl.

A love, not even death could break.

Me, missing the Marilyn Manson concert.

Fearing the social network.

Fearing social interactions.

Preferring to stay home with my cats and a book that could only be read in the winter.

A tragic story that could have been written by Shakespeare himself.

A 750-page book of a genre I would normally never read.

I don't do romance novels but something is different about this one.

There is an exception to every rule.

Don't put yourself in a box.

It limits your life experiences.

Try something different now and then.

Change is scary.

Learn to embrace it.

Take a chance on something you normally wouldn't.

You just might expand your mind.

A paperback book found at Salvation Army on a Tuesday afternoon.

I gave the unknown a chance.

I looked outside of my preferred genre box.

There is snow outside.

I could use a new to me book to read.

It still smells of the prior owner's home and has their fingerprints on the cover.

There is less ice in my heart today.

Compared to yesterday.

I am trying to believe in love again.

After having my heart shattered so many times.

Broken apart like glass that I walked barefoot on searching for Jesus.

Searching for the meaning behind all of this heartache and failure.

Walking through a Winter Tale that would be turned into a motion picture with famous actors playing the characters.

Ice skating in the depths of someone else's heart to find my own in the process.

This book found me and looked me square in the face and it said: "Take me home with you."

It was like the ghost of my grandmother had directed me towards it.

She loved to read Harlequin romance novels.

Those may not be my cup of tea but sometimes doing something outside of your comfort zone is the best thing you can do for yourself.
