Bliss

A Poem

Basic necessities provided by machines.

Mass-produced genetically-altered living beings manufactured for gluttonous human consumption.

Mountains of usable waste built by greedy architects of excess who think everything’s disposable, including other people.

Continue and see what it brings.

The best things in life aren’t things.

Ignorance is bliss.

Innocence exploited for profit while babies stay sick.

Millions dying from lack of basic necessities.

Vast bodies of living water owned by corporations just so they can bottle and sell it to the never-ending stream of fear-driven robot consumers while a mother walks miles a day for a chance to procure a jug of fluid thickened with clay, praying it’s safe for the children to drink, while all we do is turn a knob on a sink as our healthy ones play.

What can I say?

Ignorance is blissful.

Billions spent destroying our world to harness energy just to waste it, while power is something many have never even tasted.

Exterminating entire species, raping the land so we can drive unnecessarily huge vehicles poisoning the air, overcompensating for nothing just to get from here to there to ultimately nowhere, while the sight of a car for many is a thing most rare.

Lights left burning at all hours without care while a child learns to read by the faint glow of a worn-down homemade candle.

How did we get to be like this?

Turning away,

having nothing to say,

assuming someday everything will turn out to be okay.

Doing nothing.

Ignorance is

bliss

ful

ly

blissfully, blissfully, blissfully…

obscene.
