A Poem

With you...

I am sheltered, I am covered, I am warm...

Very warm...

Too warm.

Without you...

I am vulnerable, I am naked, I am cold.

You're my comfort and discomfort.

My chaos and my peace.

Hot and cold.

Under or over, I can't escape your turning tables... your never-ending cycle.

So I lie,

one leg in, one leg out.

Refusing to completely surrender to you...

Refusing to completely be without you.

I lie,

dipping my toes in just deep enough to experience the cool of your water,

without being engulfed by your waves.

I lie here,

Unable to fully commit to one or the other.

But you know that I, once a seed, am now a sprout.

Traveling, searching for foundation

I have found you

Now here I stand, my body planted, my faith rooted.

I no longer wish to escape.

Shelter me, cover me, warm me...

I can take the heat.
