Birthright

Nature and Her Bounty

By Sean MonahanPublished 6 years ago 1 min read

Ancient sentinels stand watching. Watching over the fallen and the fellers.

Are we all not sons of the Earth? We are her inheritors. Are her fruits not ours by right? All belongs to all.Her bounty can provide for us,Her bounty should provide for us.

Why do we allow her to be raped? With hands, dirtied by the blood of childrenThey defiled her, they destroyed herThey perverted a mother's loveThey stole her blessings

What is left of our birthright? The once-clean air now burns my lungsThe sea knows no more lifeAs plastic haunts the shoals fish once swarmedAs oil flows like the vile blood of this dying empireOh, how freely the blood flowsBlack as the night and red as the poppyThe forest is burnedThe river is fed with runoffAnd flows down through the towns and citiesThe lifestream of our ancestorsHas been branded by our avariceAnd that brand poisons all it touches

We must reclaim our birthright. Not for one, but for allNot for profit, but for societyWe will take what is ours by rightAnd we will grant all the mercy we were shown
