Birth

A New Being Enters the World

In a hospital room a person is born

Screaming, undisciplined, it enters the world

What's ahead is unknown, what's behind is trivial

But it longs for its mother, and its father too

The world, how it changes in only an instant

And you will wonder what it was you did before

A new meaning for life and identity too

A heart filled with joy, but a soul troubled with doubt

Now you will know unconditional love

And now you will know the grief of concern

Now you will see how tragic the world is

But now you will long to improve it some way

For the stranger is now someone else's child

The future is now what your child will inherit

Your own problems are small, your mistakes unpardoned

Through the lens of a parent, one's self is unseen

The task is as great as its reward demands

For now you hold your world in your arms

The party is over, it's time to work

For in a hospital room, an adult is born
