Beneath the Waves
A poem of the affections of a mermaid.
Peering up from beneath the waves,
The sun beams down upon me.
Looking up, I see a face,
Exquisite and unaware.
Do I make myself known,
Should I splash my tail?
Shall I just admire him,
From the safety of the waves?
He seems so peaceful,
And has the warmest smile.
I look into his eyes,
He doesn't know I'm here.
I want to see his reaction,
Can I lure him to the sea?
I flick the tip of my tail,
Just above the surface.
His eyes dart,
Searching for the sound.
I smile at him,
And await his response.
Confused for a moment,
Followed by pure excitement.
He smiled back at me,
And I extended my hand.
Glancing behind himself,
He took my hand.
Guiding him away from the rocks,
Welcoming him to my world.
Mermaids do not,
Love everyone.
But for the rare ones we do,
Their lives will never be quite the same...
