Benches

Will always make me smile

You might think it odd

but whenever I see a bench

I think of him

I see the two of us sitting on it

laughing and talking

naive to the memories we were creating

we did not know how tightly we'd cling to this symbol

Something so simple and trivial

Holds such high significance to our story

It is a representation of the days we shared

When we were so young

When we were in love

When I see a bench

I see him

There he sits, waiting for me

I watch myself go to him

And within seconds

It's back to the old days

I watch us for a little with joy

But eventually I have to walk away

And say goodbye to our innocent hearts
