We bought bottle rockets from your brotherIt was the Fourth of JulyWe taped them togetherWe mixed the styrofoam and gasoline weBurned cardboard boxes in the fire pit weBurned cardboard boxes in the street untilI got called home

We bought a case of beer from your brotherIt was Memorial DayWe drank them togetherWe mixed the alcohol and memories weBurned bridges in the swimming pool weBurned bridges in the hallways until I got called home and now

You cut your hair I keep mine longYou want to write ticketsI want to write songsI grind my teeth for absolution- and you?You enforce the law
