Below the Ground

A Life Synopsis

And so she jumped in the cold water

Breaking every bone just to feel pain

No reason to tread

So she sank deep into the dark.

Who would really miss her?

No one came looking but a phantom in disguise

He was tall and handsome

Oddly he reeked of death.

He found her and took her somewhere glorious.

She was saved.

But what came next she never imagined.

She felt a connection between them.

For she never thought she could love again.

He swept her away to a place darker than any,

And laid her down.

“I am death” he whispered to her,

“and this is where you must lie.”

She felt safe,

Calming and quiet.

This was a better place to be.

Glorious it was, she found her place below the ground,

Safe and sound.

There was nothing down there with her.

No noise. No thoughts. No people. Pure bliss.

Her phantom appeared day after day,

Checking to see if she was happy

How could she not be?

The darkness was her home.

She was at peace with where she was.

Never once had she seen a place so glorious, So enriching.

The water wasn’t cold anymore.

It didn’t hurt. Nothing hurt her.

And nothing could ever again.

Death was her way out.

Death became her friend.

And so she walked deeper into the darkness

With death by her side.
