It’s the feeling you get
When someone goes
Behind your back.
They take a knife
And drive it
Through your spine. When someone
Takes butterflies
And shoves them
Down your throat,
Wrenching them all the way down
Into the depths of your stomach.
So that every time
You hear their name
Or see their face
You feel the flutter.
Everything reminds you
Of what they did
To you.
What they said about you
To someone else.
Then all of a sudden,
You forget
Move on.
But the butterflies still shudder
With fear that
They’ll come back.
Do it again.
And the knife,
It stays lodged in between
Two vertebrae.
Threatening
Pain with every
Single
Move.
