When I look at the skies
All I think about is you
But you were hiding behind lies
I was so naive believing they were true
You were given many chances
None by me as I was blind
Almost as though I were in a trance
But none of that matters, as our lives are timed.
And while I fortunately still have mine,
Yours slipped right through our fingers.
We might all eventually be fine,
Feeling that your presence still lingers.
You see the sky lies, just like you did.
The beautiful sky hides behind it’s dying layers
Beneath the war, the hunger, and the unsheltered
Behind the litter, the waste, and our toxic haste.
They say “you can’t get rainbows without rain,”
And “there is no gain without pain.”
So, you see, you are alike,
The sky and you.
So each time I look up to the bright blue
I will forever be thinking of you
