Beauty with a Child's Heart

A Poem of Warmth

I could bury my heart in those innocent blue eyes.

I desire to lose myself in her shy, childlike smile.

This heart has been frozen and rusted by heartbreak, pain, and the cruel reality of human existence.

This soul, which was once as rich with love as the Middleast is rich with oil,

is nearly bankrupt of its humanity.

Alas, when her mouth opens, a universe of youthful altruism is revealed to me.

The ice on the valves of my heart shatters and the rust fades.

Her words are as magnificent as her golden hair that shines from the sun on a California summer.

On my darkest of days, when the clouds roll in and the winds are too cold to bear,

a word from her is a warm blanket.

When her ship is sinking in the storm of her life and she is drowning in tears,

I want to break out of my stone cocoon, rescue her, and keep her safe until an alternate refuge is found.

But her light is not mine to soak in, for she is another's beacon and he is the keeper.

So when the occasion happens that she passes by, as rare and as beautiful as Haley's Comet,

I take it in.

I take in her rays of beauty and child-like innocence that seep through my walls.
