Beauty in Black
Beauty in the black girl who wishes she was lighter
Beauty in the black girl who wishes she was lighter
Beauty is the black girl who fights for her relationship
Beauty is the black girl who stays strong when being frowned upon for being black
Beauty is the black girl who continues to strive for a better life
Society suggests that being a black girl is not good enough
That being a darker shade than her brothers and sisters, she is not worthy of acceptance
That she is to be claimed "ugly"
"Imperfect"
Because she is a darker shade, she is the "mad black woman" who can't pay her bills, keep her man happy, or provide for her children
The black girl who has been scorned for "wearing that short skirt" or keeping the hood tradition of hoop earrings that are completely too big for her face, isn't that discrimination?
The black girl who is laughed at and mocked, often copied because her hips are too big and breasts can hardly stay in her tank top, her hair is in different colors and different ponytails, isn't that discrimination
Yet "We" are the idol that white girls strive to be like
Except on social media, a light complexion are the ones who get praised for the updos, that in turn, we created -
Black girls are beautiful, who turn into strong beautiful black women.
I am a beautiful black girl...
