Beautiful Things

A look into what we miss...

I am distracted by beautiful things.

The tiny, minute details everyone misses on a daily basis.

The way the birds chirp outside my window on a lazy Sunday morning.

The way the breeze flows through my hair when I’m in the car with the windows down.

The way the heat feels against my skin in the middle of summer.

Or the way the cold sheets feel against my bare legs when I hit the pillow at night.

The way her eyes change from grey to blue to green depending on the day, depending on her mood.

Like storm clouds in a hurricane,

Or ocean waves along the beach,

Or like the color of the algae in the ice of a glacier floating out at sea.

The delicate changes in scenery as the seasons change.

As temperatures rise and fall,

Snow comes and goes,

The soft, gentle silence it brings with it, undisturbed by the chaos of the world as it falls gently to the ground in the middle of the night.

The way the street lamp light sparkles off it,

As snowflakes tickle your nose as you stand outside and enjoy it.

The way the spring air feels the first time you open the window after a long winter.

Warm and cool, enveloping you in its soft engaging arms.

The feel of a bonfire mixed with a little bit of whiskey,

The crisp, caramel colored liquid that spins in the glass around the ice before you take a sip.

The feeling of laying in the truck bed looking up at the stars knowing a storm is not far behind.

Racing to the red light just to change the song,

Driving slowly to enjoy the moment and the company you keep,

While lightning tears through the sky in the distance.

Yet somehow we miss these soft and gentle things,

Moving so fast through the world and through our busy lives,

We forget to stop and breathe,

We forget to look for peace...
