Beats In the Bay
An Appreciation for the Power of Music
The beige sunlight peeks its eyes from the horizon of the Bay Area's waters
And it spots a brunette girl, walking,
Beat, by beat, by beat.
At first the sunlight could not understand what was happening,
And could only watch as her hair appeared glazed in its presence.
She was completely lost in her playlist of electronic music
Blaring into her eardrums.
It soon became apparent that she was walking aimlessly
With no real objective, as every turn she took was
Random and purposeless and led her deeper
Into San Francisco's urban maze.
Yet she did this, because the commanding notes
of the Roland synthesizers told her to,
As relayed by its corded messengers.
This was her drug, her addiction,
This is exactly what she lived for;
Everyday, for three hours straight.
Then, finally, the playlist reached its end,
And everything went quiet.
The sunlight was waning, and the girl finally
Snapped out of it and looked up.
From the towering Transamerica Pyramid,
She saw the sun hiding behind it,
Sinking lower, and lower, and lower.
The girl just stood there, feeling like it was
Just her and the falling star in that moment.
It almost seemed like time froze just for the two of them,
But then a persisting feeling tugged at her
As everything gradually seemed to turn normal again;
It grew stronger and more tempting like a withdrawal.
Almost instinctively, she turned, tapped on a
New playlist, and resumed.
