Be Original

I thought long and hard when I decided to title this poem cause I am so articulate with my thoughts and words to the point that if this were needle and thread then my words are the pieces when sewing

See the year is 2017 and I'm surrounded by others who want to be like eveything they see

So busy chasing after what we want that we don't even have enough courage to fight for what we need

So busy trying to copy that person or rapper on our tv screens that we don't even become what we were originally created to be

I was told growing up to be like this and that but not one time was I taught to just be me

Me that person who isn't afraid to stand out or be courageous enough to stand out from the crowd

In a world that says all lives matter yet will silence those black lives because when we say we matter too we are saying it too loud

Society today teaches us how to talk walk act and think and now times have really changed

That which used to be wrong is now accepted as right and the word love has been replaced with the word hate

People are so quick to be something they ain't and I've got so much I want to say but can only say so much cause others no longer relate

Yet it's through my gifts that my thoughts tend to escape and flows through me so that I can be used to implement change

So to anyone reading this it's okay to be original

It's okay to not be like everyone else because you weren't born to be like everyone else you were born to be you

It's okay to go without makeup on to show others your imperfections because there is someone in society who will love you just for you

It's okay to not fit in because an original was born to stand out

Never be afraid to be you in a world that teaches you to like someone else

Being you and loving yourself to the fullest extent is something we all should do

If you are going to be anything then just be yourself and be original
