Autumn

I waited for Autumn.

As a kid I never liked

The fall.

"It's when everything dies," I said.

It was mostly about school and the cold though.

As I got older

I began to appreciate the colors

The calm, serene nature of

Autumn.

This year I waited excitedly

For Autumn.

The way she would play with the leaves

And start the morning with a gentle purr.

I waited

For Autumn.

She was going to be

My Autumn.

I nearly feel her soft fur

Light browns, bright oranges, even some leftover greens.

Maybe just a little sprinkle of white snow.

Or a lot, if that's what my Autumn wanted.

She was taking longer than I expected.

"It's an Indian summer," they said.

But I still waited

For my Autumn.

I bought gifts and decorated and even cleaned

For my Autumn

Knowing she was only

Days away.

Winter arrived.

Autumn

Never came home.

I don't like the fall anymore.

It's when everything dies.
