Guilty Before Proven Innocent
My sweet little boy smiles up at me in the dim early morning light. For 6AM, he is wide awake, and I'm already struggling to catch up. He's only one right now, and very few people would argue that he is anything but innocent. My heart breaks to realize that won't always be the case.

Because of Emily
I don’t know remember exactly when and how it started. Perhaps it never had a beginning, but had always been a part of my soul. Books had captured my attention since infancy, and stories lived on my tongue from the moment I could string a sentence together. The exact day I began jotting down poems in my school notebooks doesn’t matter. I was only releasing the steady current of words from my mind and watching them trail across the paper as they came to life.

You're Allowed to Be "Selfish"
You would do anything for your child. I see you, mamma. I see you give up precious moments of sleep and alone time to calm your crying baby. You see your child as the most prized possession, and how lucky that child is to have you cheering them on. I know you would give every ounce of your physical, mental, and emotional strength for the little people who calls you mommy. The thing is, you don’t have to. Honestly, it’s probably best if you didn’t. They need you to have all your strength. They need you to take care of you so that you can take care of them. Here are some ways you could be better at caring for your own needs.

Let's Stop Comparing Birth Stories
Once you have a baby, you enter a new community. Motherhood. When meeting another mom, you already have some common experiences. You have both taken on the challenging feat of bringing a child into the world and dedicating your life to that child. When meeting with people who share common experiences, it is natural to want to share those experiences with each other. Most mothers love to talk about their birth stories, but bringing up such an intimate experience can be damaging if done the wrong way. Having spoken to several other women about birth stories, I struggle to understand why it has to be a competition. Birth is a very personal and tender experience, not a competitive sport. While that statement might sound obvious, it's shocking how quickly women will put on their 'game face' as they dig into the details of their labor experience in comparison to another woman's.
