The day before Thanksgiving, the first rain of the season decided that going home early for the holiday would not be on my agenda. This rain was greasy from the campfire that recently ravaged Paradise, CA, and when a deer jumped in front of my vehicle, it aided in my inability to regain control of my tires. Instead of being comfy and home and plunging into a mug of spiked eggnog, I ended up plunging front-fender first into a tree. While this experience was far from being fun, I spent my Thanksgiving being grateful to be alive.

Growing up, my mom and I tended to move from place to place, depending on our financial needs of the moment. Being the shy (and slightly geeky) girl that I continue to be today, I often found difficulties in making friends. That is, until I took up residence in a big city in California. He became familiar with emergency protocol and nasty pills crushed up in vanilla pudding long before most children even know what a neurologist is. Our life as a couple began nearly six years ago, and since then I have learned a lot about the disorder and the factors surrounding it.
