Ask Any Addict

A Poem

Understanding a thing does not free you of it

Ask any addict

Let it go

Walk away

Never think about her again

Move on!

DAMN YOU!

But I go back

Over and over again

Give me another hit

Right there for me to look upon

You don’t even know I am looking at your image

And that’s alright

I see you smiling

I love that you can smile now

I hate that you smile without me

That smile is my hit

Flaunt your body

Shake your ass

Flash your tits

That smile is my hit

I thought I would make you laugh

Keep those lips grinning

You smile on without me

Perhaps in spite of me

You still smile though

That smile is my hit

I can see happiness on your face

I hope there is happiness in your heart

I understand that you are done with me

I understand that I have no more shots

I understand that you will not answer me

I understand I have trouble stopping

I understand that this is bad for me

I understand that I am just grinding the shattered bits of my heart

I understand that I need to quit

But that smile is my hit

I have my life,

My family

My friends

My job

You are no part of that

But I am not free

Because understanding a thing does not make you free of it

Ask any addict

About the Creator

Bradley Fraser

I am a guy who is bugged by words bouncing around in my head so I write them down. I bounce between stories and poems, but I put a level of honesty into all of it. Whether it is the truth of me or the truth of my characters, it is true.
