As They Crash

A poem inspired by the ocean

As they crash along the shore

I see that there is more, more to this moment

More to this time where I take in the air, sea, and sand

The water slowly crowds the sand to the point of needing space,

where it recedes to the vastness that is the ocean, but this does not

stop the water from doing it again.

Trying to hit the shore and grab on for more,

But it's not the way it's meant to be

The water must float back to the sea

The waves that are small yet strong and

Wide, carried by the higher tide

The sounds they make are strong and heavy

while the air is wet and salty

Making hair frizzy yet flowy.

These waves that crash, they bring me joy

Like a child with a newfound toy.

Holding onto this moment in my mind

happily awaiting the next time

that I will see the waves crashing

back into the beautiful sea.
