As the Sun Hits My Sunflower
A Sonnet for the Light of My Life

Sunflower would you stay through rain and snow?
Although the light may dim, I hope to keep
You near my heart. Against my breast I know
Your sun cannot so fade. Your roots run deep.
And deeper still your roots have grown in Earth,
Yet searching for love and your sustenance.
The seeds you disperse will blossom and birth,
All kindred marvel at your countenance.
But I would never seek to pluck you out
By petal, or take your lovely pollen.
To lean in close and smell what you're about
Until your last petal n'ary fallen.
Sunflower you are a sight to behold.
I'll gaze upon you until I am old.
