As I Look Around.
As I look around through my ageing eyes.
There is very little these days that takes me by surprise.
I have learnt to expect nothing and to accept it all.
To walk on even when this world makes you want to crawl.
I feel the soles of my feet cut upon the stoney ground.
As I walk in circles from the lost and found.
Searching for the message I crave but there is no sound.
I wonder in silence as I look around.
As I look around at a generation with their heads stuck in their phones.
There are people with hearts honest and pure yet tonight laying alone.
While money still talks in an age so cheap...
Where lack of morals and decency makes my soul weep.
I see a smile beneath a strangers ageing eyes.
As I walk towards him slowly I search beneath his disguise.
There is a smile under the frustration, anger and hurt.
There is a gentleman beneath this vagrant covered in dirt.
I cannot help but see myself in this man with the disguise I still wear.
Wondering will anyone ever look close enough or ever be aware.
Of the heart that is held behind these invisible bars of fear...
Yet it is I, that has imprisoned myself and refuse to let anyone near.
So many people passing by, rushing here, rushing there.
I stop amid the chaos and into the distance I stare.
I hear a calling from nowhere in my head it resounds.
I know I can see the bigger picture in life if I stand back as I look around.

I have been writing Poetry since I was a teenager. Now in my late thirties I enjoy it more than ever. I find it a wonderful release and it helps me to free my mind and understand myself and my emotions.
