Arrival

New Dad

Your mom told me she was pregnant, I didn’t know what to do

Should I be excited or tell her maybe we should think it through

There was no doubt I wanted you, I couldn’t make it any clearer

But how do I raise a king when I don’t see a man in the mirror?

How can I raise a good son when I wasn’t one myself?

How can I raise you to be strong when I lack faith in myself?

What if I fuck up? What if I drop the ball?

What happens when I realize I ain’t give it my all?

But time drew closer for you to appear

I prayed to God that he would wipe away my fears

And as I looked at my wife and wiped away her tears,

I saw your face and it all became clear

My mistakes will become the lessons I teach you

And I’ll pray to God that the lessons will reach you

I’ll help you find the strength I didn’t see in myself

And I swear I’ll raise you to be better than myself
