In Loving Memory

The Sergeant spoke...

"Specialist Brown"

No answer.

"Specialist Marquez Brown"

No answer.

"Specialist Marquez S. Brown"

No answer.

"Private First Class Jackson"

No answer.

"Private First Class Malik Jackson"

No answer.

"Private First Class Malik D. Jackson"

No answer.

Protect her from the enemy,

Fight against all injustices and stand for her liberty,

We all cried today in love of your memory,

Salute,

Shoot,

Wait,

Stop,

They can't breathe,

There's blood everywhere,

Someone help,

Please,

How can you even fathom to explain why you had to?

Two bodies with gun shots and stab wounds,

How do you tell a wife,

Better yet a mother,

Or the kids,

That you murdered her husband, their baby, and their father,

Who's going to give away his daughter?

Or say good job son, now throw the football a little harder?

Did he make you so mad that it felt okay to,

That he was in the wrong place at the wrong time so he just had to go too,

How do you fast forward their lives to a complete stop?

And put their loved ones' on a draining, never ending pause?

How are their lives the effect of your own cause?

Just because you made a decision to try and play God,

Fall,

Is what I'll do on my knees,

Praying to the real God to wake me up from this nightmare of a dream,

Dog tags and that beautifully folded up flag won't bring you back,

Exhausted from crying so we all put on our most believable mask,

Laugh at good times and reminisce on the past,

Never thought our last time together would be just that...

Our last.

God asked,

"Where is Specialist Brown and Private First Class Jackson?"

"Here sir, we were told to report early and that this was our final mission.."

Brown and Jackson saluted and spoke together in unison.

"Sir if we may.."

"Go on," God spoke. "What must ye say?"

"Can you make the sun shine a little brighter today? Just to let our loved ones know that we made it here safe and that in time..they'll be okay."

And God said..

"This shall be done in good faith".
