Apple Street

...is Apple Street now fading in the sun?

His walk down Apple Street today begins

with thoughts of what will lie ahead. He knows

he’s taken to a course that promises

to be one that confronts prevailing thought.

He looks beyond, far past the street, at art

set out before him in a natural frame.

He does not see the apples that once were

the splendour of this path. Instead, he sees

the encroaching angular homes all bundled nice,

like packages of pre-fab thought in place

to convey only a viewable point

of view. Does not a current flow unseen?

Does he not only see debris of wind?

Is Apple Street now fading in the sun?

Or is the archetype still a real part

of what keeps him to his determined walk?

A young woman in green waits for a bus,

a slice of Red Delicious on her tongue.
