Aphrodite

A Poem About Womanhood

When you hear a person let the word “goddess” tumble from their mouths

only to describe a human,

more often than not

they’re referring to a woman of beauty

love

warmth.

Perhaps a woman with a beguiling nature.

What they really should be saying is “Aphrodite” because most gods and goddesses are associated with nature’s much crueler than such of hers.

She

is what you mean by goddess.

Much like Aphrodite,

women’s strength is considered “treacherous”

“Malicious”

“Destructive”

“Deadly.”

What men should really be saying, and what they really mean,

is that the power, beauty, potential, and grace women wield

is SO

INCREDIBLY

incredible,

is SO

MUCH

MORE

terrifying,

than any incompetent piece of metal men wield in battle.

This is so accurate, that the almighty

gorgeous

radiant

Aphrodite, daughter of Zeus and Dione,

is portrayed as “treacherous”

“Malicious”

“Destructive”

“Deadly”.

Why?

Because all that capability she bared,

all the joy and loveliness she brought with her,

scared men.

You’d honesty think since 762 B.C. that

men,

with their soaring opinions, thoughts, and beliefs,

would maybe come crashing into some common sense.

Their minds being flooded with waves of ideas,

yet never came across the vast beach of equality.

Poor Aphrodite,

it must suck having your strength and beauty so hard to comprehend,

that everyone around you digs like dirty dogs,

blaming your tender neck

on a secret evil,

your voluptuous figure

on a hidden temperament,

your fair skin,

on weakness.

Why can’t a woman be strong or beautiful

without a man shutting her down, screeching,

“Evil!”

You’d think MANkind would learn,

but then rolled around Salem and her witch trials,

society with their beauty standards,

and Trump with his tiny hands.

A clock’s hands are constantly grasping at time,

begging not to be dropped to the next number.

But what happens when time runs out?

When it’s too late to go back, too late for a woman to except herself in the way Aphrodite did?

Too late to feel every emotion in life with conviction,

to be proud to be angry, weak, tough, stunning,

to be proud

to be a WOMAN?
