The Suffocation of Anxiety

She can't breathe

She's suffocating

She's weak

Needs resuscitating

Can't speak

Or find her tongue

Body feels old

Mind is young

Eyes shut

Head spinning

Pause, rewind

To the beginning

The feeling

The notion

Reeling in emotion

Capturing despair

Certainly aware

As the beads of sweat seep through through hair

The salty tears

Bittersweet on her lip

Trying to ground herself

Trying to get a grip

Perching on the edge

Of extreme fear

Anxiety creeps in

Voices bleed from her ear

Clench a tight fist

Cuts her skin

No one knows

The emotional state within

Above the surface is calm and still

Beneath, lies her soul at its peril

About the Creator

Charlotte Hoy

I’ve been enjoying writing for a few years now. I mostly do it for my personal enjoyment but I have had comments saying I should share my poems with other people. So here I am. Most of my poems share the same theme, hopefully relatable.
