Animal Cracker Jar

A Poem for the Failed Dreams

I keep my dreams in an animal cracker jar

I write them down and send them far

I drop my dreams in an animal cracker jar

An endless abyss contains my useless wishlists

And as they fall, they mark up the walls

Leaving paperwhite streaks with their paperwhite peaks

I left my dreams in an animal cracker jar

With the intent to let them stay so the cracker animals could play

But the elephant forgot to let me forget

The cheetah quit on mauling my desire to quit

The panda rested on the bed of my restlessness

And the fish lent me water to cry

While the snake let my dreams die in that animal cracker jar

I wrote them down and let them burn in their zoo filled urn

I buried my dreams in an animal cracker jar and there they lay
