I find it kind of funny — the phrase "you are my anchor" —
If you look up "anchor," in the dictionary you would find, "a device usually made of metal attached to a ship by a cable and cast overboard to hold it in a particular place."
HOLD — meaning to keep still and unmoving...
HOLD — meaning to restrict...
I find it funny because behind every literal word there is usually a metaphorical meaning.
Although you do not HOLD me still and unmoving you are my anchor,
Although you do not HOLD me back and restrict me from living; you are my anchor.
You are my anchor because you keep me sane,
You are my anchor because amidst all the chaos I can always look to you and WILL always look to you in my times of trouble.
You are my sliver of happy in this tangle of sad,
You are my light in every dark room,
You are the star that shines so bright that I can't help but look for it at night,
You are my first swim in a sea made of calm waters after so many years of only stormy tides,
You are the person I wrap my mind around when my hands are too shaky to hold even my own breath...
You are my happy.
You are my joy.
You are my laughter.
So, as ironic as it may seem, you are my anchor.
