An Opening
An Admonishment Regarding Love
I am standing in front of an open flame,
A place I always saw myself in the course
Of creating new things,
When the door opens.
The air rushes in and with it brings
The scent of crisp mountain air,
Coffee, flannel fabric, and the pages of books
As you enter the room,
I can tell by your look,
You are tired, weary.
But when we embrace, the two halves of our home
Become whole.
The cold places in my chest overflow with warmth
That fills the empty places in my soul.
Wherever we go
We will have shelter.
Whatever tomorrow brings
We will never be alone.
It would never have been possible
If we hadn’t seized an opening.
Take your chances, show your cards, don’t apologize
For loving, for hoping, for noticing.
