An Old Soul

I was here before. Just wait until I retain the said knowledge.

As a child, I was told that I had an old soul.

I was fourteen going on forty-five

now I’m nineteen going on ninety.

My wisdom is well beyond my years.

I have the voice of someone who been

around this world and back a couple

times although I only lived for almost two decades.

I have greater appreciation for the gems containing

infinite knowledge that niggas my age pass up.

I don’t jump ship at current trends in the media

I row my own boat.

Maybe I am a spiritual guru reincarnated.

Something like a Buddha or a famous philosopher.

Maybe I lived several lives before this one

I’m just not aware of it yet.

I love to surround myself with people who have purpose

versus motherfuckers who do not.

I am a bit old-fashioned

I prefer doing business face to face as opposed to over the phone.

I like playing old school arcade games more than modern ones.

I grew up off Sonic on the Genesis.

I fancy 90’s rap—more so than the new age hits.

I listen to albums that are older than I am.

I idolize leaders that have long been gone.

Tupac died two years before I was born

Yet, I talk about him as if he’s still living

I’m a recluse.

I keep my private life, private.

Nobody needs to know my business.

My soul has some mileage on it.

Try to walk a few of them in my shoes first.
