An Ode to the City of the Big Shoulders

A Love Letter to Chicago

You’ve probably heard a lot about this city.

You may have seen it on TV, read about it in the newspaper, heard its name spoken by people who fear it.

You may have a picture of it in your head. You may think you know it. You do not.

Maybe no one really does, but we know enough to tell you that this place is not what you think it is.

This place is not a “hellhole.” It is not a war zone. It is not your case study in your prejudiced, short-sighted arguments.

This place is home. It is a refuge. It is a beacon of hope, of ambition.

This place is a magical, living, breathing, vibrant entity with heart and soul beyond what you can even imagine.

It does not owe you anything.

This place does not apologize for what it is or who it welcomes.

It is not going to stifle its spirit for your comfort.

If you cannot appreciate the tough, commanding, bold, beautiful nature of this place, do not worry. It does not need you to.
