An ode to my skin
Oh skin you shine bright
Like a million stardust in the sky
Your beauty extends further than my mind can comprehend
You remind me of river stones
Smooth to the touch and to your very essence
Oh skin how do you possess such beauty
Reminding me of Hershey’s
Dark and shiny
But you carry out your duties
While giving out beauty
How do you do it
You gave birth to my black and shiny coils
They extend like branches
But when it rains they coil up like s ‘s
Oh skin I apologise for taking six years to notice your beauty
You represent the minority
The ones that are bashed for their hue
Pain which engulfs in their heart
You represent the ones that get disregarded by society
Referred to as ugly
An abomination
Burnt
But Skin ,
I should acknowledge you for your resilience
Your resilience reminds me of Aunty Yaa Asantewaa
An Ashanti warrior
Who refuses to let the melanin-less in
Oh skin, I am grateful for your shade
Grateful for your functions you
Grateful
Although many times you encourage pain
Regardless of your fails
I thank God for making you that way
An ode to my skin
