Allegory of a Caveman

Self-Made

Men;

When I began my journey

Into the “Cave of Man”

I was warned around every corner

“Your jawline… people will know”

“Your eyes… People will know”

“You’re small… your voice”

“People will know… people will know.”

To be a man I must:

Become stronger, become stronger

And become even stronger

As I dove deeper

I studied the drawings on the walls

The upside down triangles

Men;

Study this and become

Strength, Stability, Strong, Superior, Superman!

I was born from the cave

A man;

A triangle, but my ends didn’t quite fit

Nothing fit

But Man…

Sir…

He…

I was still called a triangle

Even when my edges didn’t fit

Even when my edges…

My eyes suddenly saw the world

It felt as though I had been born

For the third time in my life

And there were no triangles anymore

Shapes became a blur

People existed

People

People existed

So I had to return to the Cave

I was welcomed as one of their own

I went back to the drawings

Etched my broken triangle

They hated me then

“He has disgraced our culture”

“He destroyed our sacred wall”

“He is confusing our youth”

He… He .. he…

I was still the same triangle

Unchanged

Man;
