All That I Am

A Poem

All that I am.

Sometimes like today when I look at you...

It dawns on me just how much you’ve been through.

Not yet 10 years old and the battles you’ve fought.

I wonder of the salvation I’ve given, I pray it is all that you sought.

The way you still smile at me as you run across the playground.

And bury your head in my chest like a sacred treasure is found.

I feel your love but I cannot help but doubt...

If I’m doing enough, sometimes I need to let my fears out.

Sometimes I worry so much but I know I am strong.

I promised I would protect you forever and that will never be wrong.

But sometimes I feel frustrated when I try only my best...

That I am made to feel like I give you anything less.

There are few that know the truth of all that has been.

And no one has walked our path and knows the sights that we’ve seen.

But I know that you know and I guess that’s all that really matters.

I need to remember this when my confidence shatters.

I know that you see the truth in my eye...

That I have given you my life and for you I would die.

Please try to remember when blinded by the crowd.

That every time you fall I will catch you before you hit the ground.

Whatever burdens your health or whatever struggles you fight.

Through the darkness as I have been I will always be your light.

I will guide you through life the very best that I can.

I will give you every ounce of my being...

All that I am.
