Afterwards

A Poem

It's been many times around since you and I had last roused together

And I found myself a night's pondering whatever had become of you my dear

Endlessly searching for that lost sense of who we were as two people

We had both come from our youth's at play until our bodies had grown undermined with age that had come

And now our once lively spirits were floating in the abyss of forgotten

But my dear was lovely she was

Even in age's shadow

As the sunlight's rays had danced in her auburn hair

And the winter's snow had melted in her eyes that were a blue sea of emotions

And her pale lips had kissed many hungry mouths but mine she knew by heart

Not many had could reach past her skin and into her soul like I had known

And those eyes that were a blue sea of emotions could look straight into mine

But that was many years ago

And now afterwards I sit wondering where my dear is

Often when I lay in our bed I can still smell her perfume

The one that was a mixture of lavender and sage her favorite

But I still keep a few memories of her with me if they weren't already locked away in my mind

And like her they were lovely

My dear if she finds me

I'm afraid she won"t remember me

But I will still love her just the same

As she did me all those many years ago
