Afternoons in the Kennett Square Library
A Poem
Kids appear in a swarm from outside.
Energy absolutely radiates around them!
No corner is safe from their bubbles of laughter bursting into the air.
Now, the focus turns to newly returned books overflowing the desk.
Each one is quickly scanned and transported to its destination.
(Truth be told, some fascinating books do enjoy a longer stay upfront.)
The joyous squeals of toddlers then bounce up the stairwell;
such cries proclaim approval for the scheduled activity taking place.
"Quiet" is not a word much associated with this library.
Usually it's the librarians who are shushed by patrons!
Any nook big enough houses a club, a writing group, a lecture...
Really everyone, wealthy or homeless, wanders in at some point.
Each of them finds a spot on the shelf here; it is their library after all.
