Aftermath of a Drunk Driver

A 3 Part Poem

Part 1: I am

I am a mother and father,

Without a daughter,

I am a 5 year old,

Without a big sister,

I am a grandmother and grandfather,

Without a granddaughter,

I am an aunt and uncle,

Without a niece,

I am a 17 year old girl,

Without a best friend,

I am an 18 year old boy,

Without a soul mate,

I am a student,

Without a classmate,

I am a teacher,

Without a student,

I am,

What’s left behind,

After a man,

Decided to drive drunk

Part 2: Why?

Her blood stains,

Are on my heart,

Her touch,

Is on my skin,

Her laugh,

Is in my ears,

Her smile has left my sight,

Only the memories,

Of an innocent girl,

Are left

And the man who killed her,

Is still alive,

I don’t understand,

Why did she have to die?

Part 3: I’m Home

The sirens ring in my ears,

The lights blind my eyes,

The blood is on my skin,

What happened?

The pain stabs my body,

Like a poisoned knife,

The sirens and lights fade,

It grows dark,

I wake, feeling numb,

Voices seem distant,

My body aches,

I hear someone say,

“Hang on”

I try

But it hurts too much,

I see a light,

The light gets closer,

“Come, my child.” Someone says

I come,

I feel no pain,

A cloud,

Is under my feet,

I stand beside someone,

They glow,

But I cannot see their face,

I look down from the cloud,

I see my mother and father,

And a lifeless body,

My body,

Daddy takes Mom in his arms,

As she screams, with tears falling from her eyes,

The being takes my hand,

“Time to go Home,” they say.
