Aftermath

When she leaves...

I SMELL YOU IN MY SHEETS

LIKE A LINGERING DREAM UPON CONSCIOUSNESS,

AND IT SEEPS INTO MY BONES

CLEANSING THE MARROW OF ITS LONELINESS,

YOUR SMILE KISSES THE BACKS OF MY EYELIDS

AS THE SUN WOULD THE OCEAN AT DUSK,

A DARK AND WET REMINDER OF ITS ABSENCE,

BUT THEN I REMEMBER DAWN IS UPON US,

EMPTINESS ECHOES IN MY CHEST

AS IF DIALED DOWN TO ZERO,

YET THE LOUDEST BEAT

IS THE FEELING OF PULLING APART VELCRO
