Afraid of the Dark?

Are you afraid of darkness?

I am afraid of darkness

Not the darkness that comes when the light leaves a room, but a person.

The darkness inside myself and others.

I have watched the darkness eclipse the light In a friend.

The flames of desire that burnt blue in her eyes now smolder with the ashes left behind.

She doesn't look with light any longer.

Her darkness shadows the light in other people.

Just to be near her causes your candles of happiness to dim until you can barely feel their warmth.

They ripped the light and warmth from her body one word at a time.

Words spit in her direction landed on her soul like a scar.

Every single one sticking like pollen to a bees back, stinging and buzzing until it was all she could hear.

I saw her crumbling without really seeing the true damage that was being done.

I was surprised when she finally fell, but on the inside, I was not shocked.

I knew, deep down, that the darkness would win.

Words cut like blades on fresh skin, purposefully sliced to ease the untreatable pain.

Death leaves piles of rubble in its wake, leftover from the souls surrounding what is left of her body.

We buckle and break from the crippling sadness, praying someone else we love won't be next.

Darkness surrounds her body, lower and lower

In the casket six feet down, I wonder, was she afraid of the darkness as well?
