Addictions Game

(I'm so sorry.)

I'm heading to a place

called nowhere,

have you heard of it?

It sounds like a test,

cigarettes to my bare chest

Just singing my hallelujah

to the echoes of yesterday

a day in a night that's really a fight,

a light, a broken sight.

In between my fingers

burning, not as bright as the sun

but just as fatal.

It takes what it wants

and leaves you

coughing up

daisies.

This life offers more

when I offer less,

remember how I said

it sounds like a test?

It tastes like one too.

The song it sings is bittersweet,

plucking at a banjo heart

its' kiss leaves bruises

mistaken for lullabies

and when you find yourself looking

upon the familiar sight of home,

you realize you've no business to return:

the lock to your cage was long since shattered.

The door will no longer close in your favor.
