A Wonder to Behold

A Mythological Poem

The smell of the ocean breeze and the way the ocean feels under my feet

As I walk tenderly across the sand with the whitecaps hitting my ankles

The melody the waves

create is just what I need to relax and calm myself

Then suddenly I am sucked into the current and cannot get free

Time seems to stop as my life flashes before my eyes

Finally as my feet reach the ocean floor I walk steadily in the direction of land

Hoping it is where I came from

For some reason I feel no need for breathing in the air I need

The shore is near and I am not sure

As I rise from the water people look at me in fear

No doubt I look terrible from taking a brutal beating in the ocean

Then I look down into my reflection in the water and I look nothing like the person I was before

It takes my family a moment to realize its me only prettier than before

They are shaken with this weird transformation that took place

Reflection

The poem is like the story of how Aphrodite came to be, except it is about how beautiful yet deadly the ocean can be. It goes to show that change can be good.
