The world is at stake, my friends,
That is an inescapable fact.
Its not long before everything ends
And I can't say that with more tact.
Generations to come will suffer
Like the underprivileged of today.
There's no way to buffer
This message I must convey.
Within our lifespans we may see
A sharp decline in quality of life.
That, to me, is a hefty fee- -
A globe descended in strife.
We pay for today's luxury
With tomorrows' budget.
We believe it is compulsory
To have every single new gadget.
We extract, exploit, abuse and mine
Without the smallest shred of care.
We say: 'Everything will be fine-
Take more, make more!' we declare.
Without thought we continue to take,
We dump and desecrate.
We never think the earth could break,
That everything still works great.
I have a grimmer picture to paint;
It depicts a world of sorrow.
An Earth enshrouded in Human Taint.
Sadly, it could happen tomorrow.
Difficult as it may be, try to picture this,
Humans, struggling to survive.
We had a century of extravagant bliss,
Now, we take a steep dive.
A world once bountiful and plenty
Now lays bare and dry.
What once used to be ‘many'
Is now twisted awry.
Where life was once abundant,
Instead, there is an ocean full of trash.
Where deer and bison were once hunted
Stands an empty forest, burnt to ash.
Where streams once trickled clean,
There is now a toxic sludge.
Where once, there were pastures green,
Now, through a desert we trudge.
Where there was once a plethora,
Now we have less fauna.
Once, the world was varied in flora,
How can we call this Nirvana?
We once had Summer's golden grain
And Autumn's graceful chill
We once enjoyed a Spring rain
We had Winter's frozen thrill.
Now we have flooding and burning,
Increasingly unexpected bad weather.
Whats most shocking and concerning
Is that few of us have a ruffled feather.
Whats most scary is that we
Are beginning to accept this as normal.
Humans, listen to my plea,
What we have now is abnormal!
Extinctions have multiplied hundredfold,
Temperatures have climbed drastically.
Yet most of us are still so bold,
We treat this information sarcastically.
If we don't protect what we have today
We have the most to lose.
What would our grandchildren say
When they discover this abuse?
In my opinion they would surely despise
How we, the people of Now,
Blatantly ignore everything that dies
Just for another good chow.
To fix this, try, every day,
To use less and consider more.
Remember how much we'll have to pay,
Don't treat it like a chore.
Everyone, please, let's do this together,
We can still change this, you and me.
For the survival of the human race, forever,
For the people, the land and the sea.
