A Religious War

Is there a God?

What are you doing to the world Lord, are you deliberately tearing it apart?

So many beautiful and creative minds, can’t everyone make a start?

For every time a wall is built a bomb must knock it down

And every time peace is agreed, hate moves to another town.

So why can’t you just leave us God to make our own mistakes

When people talk with religious tongues they immediately close the gates

Surely man can build a world without such a divisive figure

For all I see from you Lord is your finger on a trigger.

Men in robes build a church with gold not with brick and mortar

And children in parts of the world can’t even find clean water

Religious men fly around the world in a rich man’s private jet

In Syria a frightened man seek’s what food he can get.

To feed his family our frightened man will walk through bullets and fire

Yet these men in golden robes can eat whatever they desire

They say Damascus is where St.Paul first saw the light

Now this city of history is just a place to fight.

So tell me God if you are real if you exist at all

Why do you make your followers kneel then you make them crawl?

For isn’t the story that is told of you and that of your son

Is that equality, love and forgiveness is free to everyone.

For what I can see there is no God, no deity to be king

The world is ours all mankind, the song is ours to sing

We don’t need statues and polished books to tell us who we are

We just need to accept each other, from near and from far

To the men with golden robes and money in the bank

Throw away your gilded world and get down from your tank

Peace is not made from blowing up and tearing down a wall

Peace is made from understanding, for you, for me, for us all
