A Peaceful Moment

On a Tuesday

Resting quietly I wait

beneath rustling leaves and

against knotted tree trunks

that circle each other.

Birds coo and crickets share secrets

as a lonely beetle wanders

into a spotlight emerging

from the canopy.

I spy her sunbathing there

and am happy to share this space

of sweet solitude with her

as the world continues to buzz around us.

Squirrels scurry about and

their fluffy tails follow them in waves

as they move from one hiding place

to the next.

I drift into my thoughts

and allow the surrounding sounds

and colors to fill me

until I notice the spotlight shift

and the beetle gone with it.

I decide this is my

cue to rejoin the world

but to always hold

this tranquil moment

clearly in my heart.
