A Mouthful of Sugar

A Poem

My mouth is full of sugar

Everything that leaves it, sweetened

But inside it is rotting, mold feeds on the crystals

Making my end bitter, hard to swallow, like poison

Cough drops, soothing your throat

And feeding my addiction of lying through corroded teeth

Giving gumdrops of the truth

Choking on the sugar-coated explanation of my feelings

Hiding the decay with sayings like I’m fine

You have a thing for sweets

And my mouth is full of sugar

But my dentist always said

Candy is bad for your teeth
