A Mind of My Own (Part 1)
Four Original Poems
Your Shoes
Step into my shoes
No.
I’ll step into yours
Walk your walk, talk your talk
Sing like you, so loud
Dress like you, so bold
Act like you, so cold
Live like you, so gold
I want to be like you
I want to walk in your shoes
Beauty
Her beauty is the sun
A glow no one knows
A star so bright
The moon in the night
A light like no other
Let Me Out
Gotta go—let me out
Out of this town
Out of this city
Out of this state
Out of this country
Off this world
And into the nothingness
Let me out, let me out
Our Darkest Hearts
They say that living is the best thing in the world
They’re wrong
Living in pain and suffering on the daily basis
With only some light shining through
You want to tell someone, anyone
What is wrong with you?
What dark thoughts haunt your mind
You can’t, though
You feel like if you do, then they will think of you as abnormal or insane
They tell you to get over your depression—that it’s just a phase
You say that no matter how much you go out and do things—fun things
That when you come back home you lie in bed
You’re back in that state, depressed, not caring
They don’t understand
They never will
The darkness consuming your mind is like a drug
It can become addicting at times
The darkness is there more than the light
It’s harsh thoughts, that much is true
But that’s how it is
No changing the rules
