A Message to My Kings

A Poem

I wish this pain would go away

This tiredness of feeling helpless

This pain to my heart and my mind

I wish it would go away

Even after the hurt you have caused me, I still love you no matter what

No matter how you treated me in the past, I'm going to treat you like the King you deserve to be

You still protect, respect, and love me.

I know you have to worry about being killed out here in these streets by cops that DON'T give a damn about you

You have to worry about whether you'll live to have any kids and will you be here to watch them grow up

You have to worry about trying to get a degree when society sees "stupid" written across your forehead

We don't see it but some how they're blinded to the fact that you're intelligent

Maybe it's because they're scared you're going to have a cure for cancer before "they" do

You have to worry about getting killed by someone that you consider your brother or cousin or friend

You have to worry about going to jail for a crime that you didn't commit

They'll still handcuff you and beat you on the way to the police station

Innocent until proven guilty my ass

You have to worry about another man trying to destroy a home you built from scratch

You have to worry about being forced to fight for a country that still doesn't realize that you're human

For my kings that's doing this I salute you.

I know you have a lot on your mind that you worry about

I'm still going to be right here by your side because I worry too.
