A Matter of Pain

"It's all a matter of pain," she said,

as he wrapped the noose around my head.

"There are things you must endure..."

I shook my head, I wasn't sure.

"Are those tears for him or you?"

I couldn't say. Would it be true?

The rope grew even tighter yet.

"He's the one you can't forget..."

I screamed my hurt out in the night

"Why must you struggle, why do you fight?"

How can I not? What can I say?

"It is his breath you breathe today."

What happens when he goes away?

"You'll drown just like you did that day."

I'm sinking deeper, can't he see?

"There is nothing you can't be."

Those aren't the answers that I need!

"But you're the one to plant those seeds..."

Why can't he save me? I'll ask, I'll plead...

"He would rather watch you bleed."

He's cut me deep this time, I fear

I'm seeing scars that once weren't here

"Those scars were always yours, my dear,

you just hid them so you wouldn't fear."

It can't be true, it's all a lie.

I know just who I am inside!!

"Oh do you now, can you be sure?"

This is a pain I can't endure...

It hurts me way down deep inside.

He's not the reason that I cry...

"Then the reason for the crimson tears?"

He's tapped into my deepest fears...

It hurts me when he's far away

It hurts when there's no words for days

I stare at pictures, filled with ache

This is a love that he should take.

"How can he pass the doors you barred?"

He knows to trace the line of scars.

"How do you know his words are true?"

How does one know the sky is blue?

I simply look and I can see...

he is the other half of me.

"Then you must die... just one last time."

And this is what will make him mine?

"It's all a matter of pain," she said,

as he wrapped the noose around my head.

"There are things you must endure..."

I shook my head, I wasn't sure.

"Are those tears for him or you?"

I couldn't say. Would it be true?

The rope grew even tighter yet.

"He's the one you can't forget..."

It's all a matter of pain...
